地理資訊系統(Geographic Information System, GIS)是一種可整合處理地理空間資訊及其相關描述資訊的電腦軟體，它可以進行視覺化、操作、分析及展現地理資料(包含空間及相關描述資訊)。至於地理處理(Geoprocessing)是針對地理資料有系統地依序執行一連串運算，以獲取新的資料之過程，它可協助建立空間分析模型及處理自動化，解決真實世界空間問題。因此利用ESRI公司之ArcGIS軟體的圖控式程式撰寫工具ModelBuilder，串接海岸災害風險分析之一系列計算流程，最後完成風險地圖製作，而該自動化程序也可提供調適模擬之用。
